About

Jamie Heiden® Photographyfinding a little fairytale everyday.

The Beginning

Once upon a time in a land far, far away…or was it right down the road and just the other day? Either way it’s the beginning of a story. A story of everyday, told with just a little bit of fairy tale mixed in. A story that begins with the image and goes wherever your mind takes it, a different place for each and every person.

Jamie Heiden is a photographer first. She gets the most satisfaction out of taking a picture. But when she sits down at her computer, the beginnings unfold. Most of her finished images contain multiple photographic layers. Dodging, burning, boosting contrast and adjusting exposure were all tasks performed in the darkroom that are now tools she has at her fingertips using the computer. What would have taken hours in the darkroom can be done and then undone in half the time, not necessarily making the completed process any shorter but allowing for ten times the amount of experimenting within.

Her titles are an integral part of her images. She loves the journey words allow us to travel. So for her, there is something about the combination of words and pictures that completes the process. But, she’s not a writer and can not offer this journey with words alone. She takes pictures and they are her stories.

So, do you remember how it began?

Once upon a time in a land far, far away there was a little house that lived down a gravel lane. The big oak protected it, the fence post would make it laugh, and the porch swing loved it dearly. Then one day…….

I think it may go something like that.

The End.

I found you, and am now following you, on Pinterest. Your work is beautifully original and serene, like a Wyeth painting.

I absolutely love your work, which I stumbled upon while looking for images for a poem I had written. There is something so hauntingly beautiful of what you capture, a wprld which we live in but cant see..I would love to visit your farm one day, but then again I live millions of miles away in India!

Hello, just come across your works. Simply beautiful and poetic. It would be very interesting to know how you cross the border between photography and painting. Thanks for sharing.

  8. I love your images. They speak to me. Would never have thought that they were photographs. Wish I could buy lots of your cards to send to others. Is there a source for them?

  9. Hilda says:

Your fairytale worlds are so soothing to gaze upon. So much beauty and love for your art seems to peacefully float off your images. Thanks for sharing your vision!

    Hi Jamie,
I recently came across your beautiful images and I’m smitten… I’ve had the most difficult time finding artwork that I love for my home. I grew up on a dairy farm and animals, barns, old farm houses, and many of the settings that you photograph were my childhood and I long to get back to the country. I’m stuck in suburbia now, but your images make me feel like I’m there again and bring me happiness. I hope to order some of your prints here in the future.

    Hi Jamie
I ran across your work in an insurance ad in the newspaper today. The picture was that of something that so reminded me of Venice-a place I dearly love. I then looked you up on the computer. I am totally astonished at the quality and thought in your work. I showed my wife and she is of the same opinion. Hope to order some of your work shortly. I am a former photographer and believe your work is some of the best I have ever or will ever see. Keep up the wonderful work. Our very best to you and your family.

  13. John Cooney says:

Absolutely brilliant. At first I thought these were paintings…..usually it’s the other way around. You capture a world of atmosphere in your images….inspiring, emotive, transcendent…..keep on photographing and doing what you do after that!

    Hi Jamie,
I just saw your work in an American Family Insurance ad in People magazine so I went to your website. Truly amazing work. I need to scroll through all your work. I’m certain I will find what I’m looking for. Congratulations on getting such a huge audience in People. Definitely going to be following you!

  15. Karen & Fred says:

Congratulations on being selected by American Family Insurance showcase of artists and the beautiful spread in Peoples Magazine [issue 2/2015] picturing your photo “Love is Round”.

  16. Linda says:

Brilliant!! Thanks to my mother’s People magazine…I found your body of work. I love Andrew Wyeth (some of your work is a modern touch on his themes) and your work touches my heart just the same. My first Jamie Heiden is ripped from the pages of People. My next will be purchased in a proper way! I was in Buena Vista Co last June and if I had known then your work was there…I would already own a Jamie Heiden.
    Love all of your work!

  17. Sherry says:

    Thanks!

    Jamie

Hi there, I work in Photoshop but don’t use any filters or plug-ins etc. Each image is composed of multiple photographic layers. I then go in and work on each individual layer to get the final image. Thanks!

  29. Kerry Cook says:

You are an amazing artist! I knew nothing about you or your photographs until I saw the first one on Pinterest and then I couldn’t get enough. At first I thought these were paintings and then discovered they were photos touched with your magic in thoughts and words. I am a 75-year old widow who doesn’t get around much any more, but your pictures have made a difference in my life. Thank you for such beautiful artwork.

  30. Jamie Heiden says:

Thank you, Kerry, for such kind words.
